Infants & Toddlers (birth to 35 months)

  3. Neighbors pay attention to child
  4. Adults model responsible behavior
  5. Child sees other children interact positively
  6. Parent(s) has realistic expectations

Preschoolers (ages 3 to 5)

  1. Family has rules and consequences
  2. Out-of-home settings provide clear rules and consequences
  3. Neighbors monitor the child's behavior
  4. Adults model responsible behavior
  5. Interactions with other children are encouraged and supervised
  6. Adults have realistic expectations

Elementary-Age Children (ages 6-11)

  1. Family sets clear rules and consequences
  2. School sets clear rules and consequences
  3. Neighbors monitor the child's behavior
  4. Adults model responsible behavior
  5. Child's friends model responsible behavior
  6. Parents and teachers have realistically high expectations

Teenagers (ages 12-18)

  1. Family sets clear rules and consequences
  2. School sets clear rules and consequences
  3. Neighbors monitor young people's behavior
  4. Adults model responsible behavior
  5. Friends model responsible behavior
  6. Parents and teachers have high expectations
